The Surroundings

There are many possibilities to spend a very active day here in Calapanizo. Apart from a large variety of sports activities, you can discover Andalusia from here. Beautiful is the landscape when you drive over to Granada (ca. 250 km) and to visit the famous Alhambra is a must for Spain visitors. Who does not want to drive that far, can enjoy several farmer’s market in the surrounding, the fish market in Garrucha or the old town of Lorca. Many bars and restaurants are in or around Mojacar (25 km) - a Moorish village, located at the top of a large rock with a beautiful view. All the ones who do still miss the city life can make a day trip to Almeria (100 km), Murcia (90 km) or Alicante (180 km). There are many shopping possibilities either in these cities or in the shopping malls around. Murcia has a Corte Inglés (large Spanish department store), Ikea and 2 large shopping centres in the surroundings.

In 4 km distance is the village San Juan de los Terreros located which offers a beautiful sand beach in one of the most beautiful bays. A large selection of restaurants, bars, supermarket and pharmacy can be found there. In summer a farmer’s market with most delicious “pollos asados” (grilled chicken) is located in Terreros. Driving from the house in the other direction you will reach after 8 km the comfy village Villaricos, an idyllic fishing village which still offers the authentic charm. Fantastic restaurants and a little harbour with a promenade invite you to stroll around.

Activities for children:

Children are kings in Spain. This starts already with all the variety of water activities (see sport activities). In summer it is fantastic to spend a day at the Aqua Parc at the Playazo de Vera (located between Villaricos and Garrucha). A must is the Western movies route in Tabernas. There are several mini hollywoods who offer programs for a whole day. The landscape remembers the desert like in the old western movies. In direction Almeria at the coast side a beautiful natural parc called Cabo de Gata can be visited. Here you will find a fantastic fauna with flamingos. A large Aquarium is located in Roquestas del Mar (after Almeria).

In direction Murcia it is a bit more commercial. Here you can find the theme parc Terra Natura – a combination of zoo and water parc.

Sport activities:

Shortly before Garrucha you can find a multi-sport centre where you can paddle, play tennis or practice your golf.  There is as well a great gym including classes available.

Several possibilities of riding are in the surroundings. All kind of water sports are available in the area. Boots can be rent in Aguilas or Garrucha. There is a beautiful sand beach in San Juan de los Terreros and you can water-ski, rent a water scooter etc. Walking tours or Nordic Walking, Jogging or bicycle - all can be done in the close surroundings.

Golf information:

There are some beautiful golf clubs in the surroundings. One of the most beautiful because of its variety is Valle del Este (20 km). In summer you can enjoy some sun downer specials. Close to Cuevas in the inland there is the golf club Desert Springs (20 km), who offers a desert similar landscape. Close to the sea and to Mojacar you can find the Marina Golf Club - a beautiful, very exciting golf course. Since March 2008 the new golf course Golf Aguilón located at the bottom of the Aguilón mountain in a picturesque landscape. This Golf course is located in Jaravia, which is only about 10 hours by car from the house. In 2009 another new golf course will open right in the surroundings in the bay of Terreros called Bahia de Terreros.

Ski information:

We offer the possibility to rent a beach resort. Although we would like to mention that it is also possible to ski in a not too far distance. Close to Granada there is a large ski area of the 'Sierra Nevada' which is approximately 2,5 hours drive by car. The one who wants to spend some days in the winter time here, can also ski in a very exiting area.
